The GRPC helped lead the initiative to advance IUCN Resolution 18: Advancing and tracking global river conservation to meet biodiversity and climate goals. The resolution was adopted by IUCN Members at the IUCN World Conservation Congress in October 2025, establishing an important new mandate for recognizing, protecting, restoring, and tracking rivers as part of global biodiversity conservation efforts.
